11/22/13 > AdvancED Report

AdvancED accreditation is a result of a rigorous internal and external review process with the goal of building schools' capacity to improve and sustain student learning.  South Madison Community School Corporation (SMCSC) began the internal review process in spring of 2013 for the purpose of achieving renewal of school district accreditation by this international agency.

The external review, conducted November 10-13, 2013, consisted of a site visit to SMCSC and included interviews with parents, community members, School Board members, teachers, and administrators, as well as classroom observations in every school.  The Exit Report, presented November 13, 2013, is attached below.

The Review Team expressed high praise for the school staff, students, and instruction they observed on November 12, 2013, during the school visits. The Review Team stated the Learning Environment ratings were very good, and even South Madison's lowest category rating was above the AdvancED average.

On the Index of Educational Quality, South Madison achieved a rating of 300 out of 400, a solid performance in the quality range. The district was recognized for Powerful Practices in its commitment to Success for All Students, and the School Board was recognized for providing the leadership to allow schools to function effectively to meet the needs of all stakeholders.

The AdvancED commitment to quality schools includes Required Actions.  South Madison's required actions are as follows.

·         *  Implement a systemic K - 12 curriculum identifying non-negotiable content and an instructional                 framework that will benefit a K - 12 vertical articulation initiative.

·          *   Create and implement a formal teacher evaluation tool that meets state requirements.

South Madison received the Report of External Review 2013 in January 2014 and notification of accreditation by the AdvancED Accreditation Commission for a five-year term. The Report of External Review is attached below.

South Madison is proud to have achieved a recommendation for continued accreditation with AdvancED.  The rigorous standards and protocols for schools and school districts as well as the Internal and External Review processes provided SMCSC with information and feedback that will move the district forward in its continual efforts for school improvement.
